Description
Prof Jones attended the "Consultation: National Code to prevent and respond to gender-based violence" held 19.6.24 with hosts from the National Tertiary Education Union and Federal Government Department of Education. At the event Prof Jones inquired into direct nature of consultation around the code and practices with LGBTIQ+ people, organisations and academic experts with relevant data. Prof Jones directly shared data towards justifying the need to ensure higher education and education bodies generally directly enumerate LGBTIQ+ and/or sex, gender and sexuality diverse groups in protective anti-GBV policy at education institutional levels in order, as when these groups are not enumerated institutions are reportedly associated with double the rates of violence and double the rates of suicidality according to LGBTIQ+ student survivors (noting these therefore may be conservative figures). From outdated "Australian Science and Research Priorities" in Impacts module:
