Results from this evaluation suggest administering Sound Scouts to a five year old child at home is easy to use, can identify children with potential hearing loss, and is cost effective. Sound Scouts may therefore be a cost effective universal hearing screening tool for children entering their first year of school. Further analysis on the cost of implementing a universal screening program for children entering their first year of school, and consideration of alternative screening tools (e.g., standard audiometry test) must be conducted before the cost effectiveness of a universal screening program can be determined.
