Description
Encouraging students to find their voice as poets can be challenging particularly in settings where EAL/D students can feel their stories and ways of telling them are not as valued as other voices. Framed by socio spatial theory , this ethnographic case study explores whether creating a translanguaging space in which students are encouraged to use all their languages, might foster student confidence in writing. The research also explores factors that make English teachers reluctant to embrace home languages in their classrooms and whether professional learning in translanguaging poetry pedagogy can bring about changes in teacher attitudes. The findings show that creating a translanguaging space allows teachers to both innovate and support writing development, and that students find a creative space to develop their poetry writing skills and voice their stories.Period | 1 Dec 2022 |
