Description
Now more than ever, research impact and external engagement are recognised as top priorities for researchers and it can be challenging for anyone to switch between academic and lay-person communication styles. That is why MQ Philanthropy and Cruxes Innovation have developed an experiential learning program designed to give impact-focused researchers a structured methodology to discover, validate and communicate the potential real-world impact of their research, then use this to appeal to philanthropic donors.Themes of the program include:
Donor discovery
Prioritise the donor’s perspective when making decisions and taking action
Ask provocative questions to understand the assumptions and rationale underlying donor practices and consider their needs before moving to problem solving
Utilise a donor-led approach
Active listening
Actively attend to donor’s without judgement, think about their message and respond to facilitate understanding.
Build relationships
Effectively engage with donors
Impactful communication
Communicate the intention and impact of the project or program using storytelling techniques
Write accessible and compelling project summaries.
