Classroom-based learning is limited because of its restricted learning affordances, especially in a regional city with learners who speak a range of languages and dialects. This qualitative study addressed the informal English learning of university students in a newly-established city in Vietnam through online journaling and semi-structured interviews to understand the learning practice in more depth.
