How do universities manage students’ linguistic diversity through their admission requirements and set students up for success? How is language used to communicate these requirements but attract applicants at the same time? This workshop focused on English language proficiency (ELP) requirements for university admission in Group of Eight universities to answer these questions. It firstly examined ELP as a requirement and the ideological categories this creates both of ELP and the students who are assigned in each category. Then, it looked into the way these requirements are communicated to potential applicants. Participants of the workshop discussed these findings and implications of university language requirements for admission.
