This workshop examines the significant changes taking place in practices relating to the identification of minorities at the level of individuals and populations. Specifically, the workshop interrogates the effects of increasing digitisation, datafication and interoperability of civil registration and other related databases, and its projected or actual capacity to create new and unanticipated forms of knowledge about people – individually and as groups. This potential has especially significant effects for minorities.
