Description
What if you wanted to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community? This session with Dr Magali Goirand, Dr Elizabeth Austin and a representative of the Aboriginal Reference Group explores partnering with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community as an embodiment of the co-creation research method, showing how empowering the Community to be the lead stakeholder can strengthen self-determination, innovation, implementation and overall success of a project. However, differences in culture and stakeholder needs can create tensions in project management and outcomes. Drawing on experiences from the MyED project, an MRFF funded project aiming to improve the ED experience of underserved populations in Western Sydney in collaboration with the WS Local Health District, the session walks through the full co-creation research process from establishing an Aboriginal Reference Group and research design through to key stakeholders, navigating bias, data analysis, and ownership. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how and why co-creation with Community generates stronger research and Community outcomes and how it might be applied in their own work, particularly in health, education, and social research contexts.| Period | 31 Aug 2026 |
