Perspectives on Transnational (Korean American) Adoptee Narratives

    Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation

    Description

Why is transnational adoption an important issue? Because it models how societies fail to be resilient. South Korea has been exporting babies because of the pressures of internalized Confucian ideology which demonizes both extra-marital pregnancy and adoption, and because of an ever-widening economic gap between social groups. And many of the children exported have found themselves in a society not resilient enough to accept their difference.
