Description
Patient safety culture can be assessed using a variety of methods including surveys, interviews, focus groups and ethnography. The Safety Culture Measurement Expert Advisory Group within The Commission is selecting and recommending a survey tool by which hospitals can assess their safety culture, which is a requirement of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. The Expert Advisory Group (EAG) is developing a toolkit alongside the survey which will include information on other validated measures, and advice on implementing safety culture assessments and improvement strategies. Many of the members of the EAG are clinicians and work in the health system whereas I provide advise on theory, research and methodology of safety culture assessment.
