Description
Seminar for USER (University Students for Egyptological Research)Abstract: Research under the aegis of the Associated Regional Chronologies for the Ancient Near East Project (ARCANE www.arcane.uni-tuebingen.de) produced a new High Chronology for the Southern Levant in the third millennium BC. When set against the chronology of Egypt, itself recently refined by radiocarbon dating, implications emerge which challenge traditional views of Egypt's engagement with the region. This presentation outlines the ARCANE results and considers the issues raised for Egyptian-Levantine foreign relations in the Early Dynastic Period and Old Kingdom.
