Description
The Social Business Incubator (SBI) project offers a new way for individuals experiencing disadvantage to be supported to develop new skills, harness their creativity and move to increased independence and community participation through the creation of their own small and micro businesses. The model combines the expertise of Macquarie University in designing and operating traditional business incubators and in best practice monitoring and evaluation, with the experience of the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW in working with the most disadvantaged in the community. The model is also informed by lessons from the wider community and business sectors, including innovative employment programs, to create a new pathway for those who have experienced homelessness, illness, poverty, domestic violence and social exclusion to achieve the project goal that: "People who are excluded from full participation in society due to poverty, disability or health are supported to reach their potential through the opportunity to thrive in their own business."
