Speaker Series: TikTok and Young people

    Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

    Description

Join the conversation about how young people use TikTok and the way that care is enabled by this platform – and how carelessness is also a part of this digital space.

Centring the voices of young people to share how they experience care on the app, we’ll discuss what makes TikTok so popular.

This conversation will share recent research on how children and young people use TikTok and the ways that content creators work with the constraints and opportunities of Tik Tok.

Joining Associate Professor Jess McLean are content creators on TikTok (and elsewhere!) Taylor Mellor and Nathaniel Wenke.

TAYLOR MELLOR ( She/They ) has worked in newsrooms think tanks, and universities, including the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, providing expert social media advice and spice to help connect people and communities on TikTok and beyond.

NATHANIAL WENKE is studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications and a TikTok content creator for Macquarie University.
