Description

The webinar, jointly organised by the biomechanics researchers at Western Sydney University and Macquarie University, will provide a comprehensive introduction to walking and running gait analysis for physiotherapy practice. The session will begin with an overview of the fundamental biomechanical principles that govern human gait, highlighting key differences between walking and running as well as common factors influencing gait patterns across different clinical populations. It will then outline the range of available assessment methods, ranging from observational approaches to wearable sensors and laboratory-based motion analysis. Practical clinical applications will be demonstrated through case examples, with a particular focus on gait retraining strategies for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis and common running-related injuries. The webinar will conclude with a discussion of emerging trends in wearable technology and data-driven gait evaluation that are shaping future physiotherapy practice.
