Systems thinking to support sustainable port city development (Bandari Bora Project)

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising a conference, workshop or event series

    Description

I organised a three part online workshop series to teach the Bandari Bora Project members in Kenya and South Africa how to apply systems thinking to help them with their sustainable port city development research project. The three part workshop was conducted on 7 and 21 April 2021, until 31 May 2021. The first workshop introduced the project team to Systems Thinking concepts and Problem Articulation. In the second workshop, I worked with the team members to help them identify the problems related to port city development in their case study areas. For the last workshop, I taught the students how to create causal loop diagrams to visualise the mental models and dynamic hypotheses driving the problems in their case study areas. The participants then used the lessons from the workshop, and applied it with stakeholders in their case study areas.
