Technological Objects as Inverted Utopias

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

New technologies are often promoted and debated with the aid of visions of utopian and dystopian visions of futures. These visions survive alongside the objects that brought them forth, and often they are amusingly far off the mark. Taking an early VR console as its point of departure, this research initiative investigates how past visions of the future might provide access points to non-human centred perspectives on technology and how this can inspire new ways to engage with the technological present.
