INTRO
Good afternoon and welcome to this session in the Shape your Future series, where we are exploring the STEM career journeys of Australia’s rising stars.
Today we’ll be hearing from Dr Jiao Jiao Li. I’m Adam Johnston … I am a PhD Student in Law at Macquarie University and I’m also part of the Catalyst program at the Academy of Technology and Engineering
As we gather from around Australia, I’d first like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands from which we meet. I’m joining you today from Ngunnawal and Nambri land. I pay respect to elders past and present, and to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who join us online today. As we share and discuss our own knowledge and practices, we acknowledge the deep knowledge forever embedded in custodianship of Country.
Before we get into this session, you would have seen that this is being recorded. This and all talks in this series will be available on the STELR YouTube channel for you to revisit anytime. There is also a Q and A button at the bottom of the screen, if you have any questions drop them in there and we will get to them either during the talk or in the discussion at the end. There is also a chat function, but any questions should be in the Q and A section.
Finally, you’ll be sent feedback form and worksheet after this session to the email you registered with. Please let us know what went well and what you might like to see in our series next year.
Dr Jiao Jiao (JJ) Li is a biomedical engineer and medical researcher. She works in the field of tissue engineering, combining biological science with engineering to create replacement organs and body parts. Thanks to her engineering background, JJ is trained to work across multiple disciplines from cell biology to materials science, nanotechnology and data science. Her current research focuses on developing new tissue engineering strategies to help heal injured and diseased bones and joints.
Now I’d like to introduce Dr Jiao Jiao Li to tell us how she came to be working in tissue engineering.
AFTER TALK
Thanks so much JJ… (Some general comments like “wow that was so interesting” etc.. )
Ask any questions that may have popped up in the Q and A box or really anything that occurred to you during the talk.
Some generic questions I’ve found helpful are:
- How important have collaborations been in your work?
- What’s been the most interesting thing to work on?
- What would you want to have told your high school self?
- Is there another thing you would have become if you weren’t a scientist?
Hopefully sometimes a couple of other ATSE staff will also be online and will throw some questions in as well. If conversation slows or there’s just no more questions… move to wrapping up…
CLOSING
Thank you for joining us and sharing your journey with us Jiao Jiao. And thank you also for tuning in.
This series of talks was supported by the Victorian Challenge and Enrichments Series. Don’t forget to fill out our feedback form after you leave this session.
The Shape your Future Series will be continuing all this year, so you can tune in to hear from many more scientists. All the information is on the STELR and ATSE websites.
Thanks,
