Description
Workshop overview: Australia is a super-diverse cultural and linguistic landscape and students can feel alienated when they are consistently reminded that their community, culture and language are not valued by the wider society. This practical workshop explores how culturally responsive poetry and drama strategies can support multilingual speakers to make flexible use of their individual linguistic resources and give voice to symbolic representation of identity and culture. By shaping a translanguaging space in our classrooms we create the capacity to transcend boundaries of named languages and embrace creativity – a dimension of English teaching under threat in high stakes educational contexts such as Australia.Period | 5 Sept 2023 |
