    The trope of the child in popular media:

    the vulnerability of children has been a recurring theme in current affairs recent years, and cultural anxieties around childhood appear to be surfacing in popular culture. From Jane Campion's Top Of The Lake to Game of Thrones, themes of corruption and exploitation are rife. Dr Jo Faulkner, a researcher at the University of New South Wales, believes that the representation of children throughout history are often an expression of contemporary social concerns.
