Description

The author first notes that the general designation 'Bes' is an oversimplification of a number of look-alike deities, therefore 'Bes-image' is used here, and that the image is autochthonous. After presenting a survey of earlier research, the author describes the development of the Bes-image over time, from a few possible ancestors of the Bes-image in the OK, through the MK and SIP, the early and the late 18th Dynasty, the Ramesside Period, up to the TIP, the Late Period and the Graeco-Roman Period.
