On the 25 of January 2017, Jones et al.'s data from 'Intersex: Stories and Statistics' was cited by Morgan Carpenter in the consultation on intersex variations at a United Nations convening. Emphases was made by this representative of international intersex organisation OII on the urgency for preventing unwelcome early surgical and other 'corrective' medical interventions on the basis of their negative statistically significant impacts on individuals with intersex variations (including suicide and negative wellbeing impacts). The UN has increased its engagement on this topic since, convening experts on intersex themes and releasing resources.
