Cool Kids

Impact: Health impacts

Purpose of research project *

This research seeks to better understand and manage anxiety in children and teenagers through effective cognitive-behavioural skills-based treatment.

Who has, is or will benefit *

Children, families and the general public benefit from effective treatment and improved wellbeing. Furthermore, the online programs provide additional flexibility for families at reduced cost. Therapists benefit through access to online training (both in Australia and overseas).

Description of impact *

As an evidence-based treatment, a key impact of the Cool Kids online program is that it demonstrates diagnostic benefits as opposed to simply symptom change, compared to other similar programs. The Program has partnered with the NSW Department of Education to provide online mental health services to schools. Approximately 1500 children visit the Macquarie University clinic annually. Licensed programs are executed internationally - for example, Finland has 500 accredited providers. Internationally, Cool Kids is the second most adopted mental health program currently in operation.
