Innovations in Statistical Modeling for Timber Industry

Impact: Commercial impacts, Environment impacts, Health impacts, Technology impacts

Description of impact *

Determining the stopping time in wood panel compression is vital for achieving desirable product quality saving energy and labor costs. The project aims to create innovative and cutting-edge statistical models to meet the timber industry's needs better. Together with partner organization FPInnovations, where spectroscopy data are collected, it will develop more accurate and fit-for-purpose statistical methods for determining an optimal stopping time in wood panel compression. Collaborating with colleagues from Simon Fraser University and the University of Waterloo, the expected outcomes of this project included improved estimation methods reported in scientific papers and user-friendly statistical software for the partner organization.
