For over 20 years, Karin Sowada has appeared in the Australian and international media as an expert commentator and story-teller on ancient Egypt and archaeology generally. Outlets include Sydney commerical and ABC radio, TV and print media commenting on international news stories, but also breaking national news derived from the results of her own research and academic initiatives. Appearances include numerous interviews on ABC Radio, including Radio National, interstate stations and Sydney 702, where she has been a regular on the high-rating Drive Show with Richard Glover for the popular 'Self Improvement Wednesday' segment since 2006. In addition, Karin was key talent for two Discovery Channel documentaries aired globally (2000-1). Other opportunities include media talent for the Australian Museum 'Art of the Pharaohs' Exhibition (2009), leading major press conferences with new discoveries (1998), and participating in the creation of visual resources for school teaching. As a member of the Dept of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University, media appearances include Channel 7 News, Egyptian television, ABC-TV "The Drum", and numerous radio interviews on subjects as diverse as radiocarbon dating, mummification, the Pyramid Age, and her own research results.

Overall, this work has served to enhance public understanding of ancient Egypt generally, and, along with the rest of the academic team, helps position Macquarie University as a centre of excellence and global expertise in ancient world studies.
