Purpose of research project *

The original research aimed to develop and evaluate self-report questions to identify school students who are currently struggling with issues related to mental health. The work also developed methods to follow-up with identified students and provide them with appropriate support. The research aimed to determine whether these processes had a positive impact on mental health and related impacts, such as school attendance.

Description of impact *

A student self-report mental health screening measure has been developed and made freely available on the Macquarie University website. The Commonwealth Department of Education has tendered Macquarie University to expand this work into a National Mental Health and Wellbeing Check-in that is freely available to all schools across Australia. My Mind Check has been developed and is currently being used by schools across all Australian states and territories.
