Description of impact *
The Bachelor of Commerce Capstone is supported by weekly live industry panel guest lectures. This teaching format keeps the content contemporary for a graduating cohort. In weekly workshops, students apply these industry insights to their capstone projects. Students showcase their e-portfolios to potential employers on LinkedIn, pivoting authentic assessments to enhance graduate employability.
Recruiters such as Randstad run recruitment drives within the capstone, paired with guest lectures on up-to-the-minute industry trends and other career workshops. KPMG and EY have hired students directly from the capstone lectures.
Employers have increased from 10 industry guests in 2021 S1 to 57 guests in 2024 S1 – most who voluntarily reach out to the teaching team when their interest gets piqued via the LinkedIn showcases of student e-portfolios. Industry guests are willing to take part, because they are alumni, or because they gain direct access to potential talent.
Industry partners include: 3M, APRA, Academy of Entrepreneurs, Australian School of Entrepreneurship, BDO, BMS Performance, Comensura, Commonwealth Bank, Crayon, Dell, Deloitte, Earlywork, Ebury, Ecolab, Everperform, EY, FindME, Greenfluence, HLB Mann Judd, Koinly, KPMG, Macquarie Group, Nous Group, NSW Health, NSW Transport, NSW Treasury, Provender, PwC, Randstad, SAP, Suncorp, Westpac, Youth Decide, and more.
A signature structured networking at the end of the semester brings industry guests back together. Each student gets to spend 15 minutes with 6 industry partners in tables of 5 students. In 2024 S1, we had 18 industry partners and over 100 students at our inaugural ‘Accelerate your Career like a Boss with Boss!’
