Biography

Ali (Alireza) Amrollahi is a lecturer in business information systems at the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance, Macquarie Business School. Ali has spent the last 15 years on finding novel applications of Information Systems to solve firms’ problems. Before joining academia, he worked as a project data analyst in several construction, petroleum, gas refinery, and powerplant projects.

As an academic, his research interests focus on the social and organisational impacts of information systems, including:

  • digital work and the future of the accounting profession
  • the strategic impact of disruptive technologies
  • governance of the technology
  • open strategy
  • digital innovation

Ali is currently involved in multiple research projects with colleagues in Australia, the UK, the USA, and Canada. Beyond publishing in high ranked journals (such as Information & Management, Computers in Human Behaviour, Information Technology and People, and Communications of the Association for Information Systems), Ali’s research has been highlighted in Macquarie’s the Lighthouse and implemented in multiple organisations in different countries.

Ali has teaching experience in Australia and the UK since 2013. He has been the recipient of two teaching grants and was involved in multiple teaching innovation projects on technology-enhanced learning, student-centred teaching, developing employable graduate attributes, and collaborative learning. His teaching focus at the moment is on the applications of information systems and disruptive technologies, including:

  • Blockchain
  • Cybersecurity
  • Business processes
  • Accounting information systems

Beyond multiple reviewer roles at various journals, Ali is a section editor at the Australasian Journal of Information Systems and has been a track chair on “Strategy, Governance, and Leadership in the Digital Age” at the Australasian Conference of Information Systems twice (ACIS 2020 and ACIS 2021). Ali is currently supervising two HDR students, and he is available to supervise research students interested in multidisciplinary research.
