Biography

Alistair commenced a Macquarie University Research Fellowship (MQRF) in the Discipline of Geography and Planning in January 2023. He is an early career researcher whose work focuses on housing, planning and urban development.

Research interests

Alistair is interested in the political and economic dynamics of housing and cities. His doctoral research examined the politics of public housing policy in Australia with a focus on estate redevelopment and particularly the Waterloo estate. His subsequent research has included affordability and security in the private rental sector, the politics and economics of urban densification, and emerging trends in urban governance.

Alistair’s current MQRF project is titled ‘The politics of housing data’. The project is a critical analysis of the ways that contemporary housing problems are quantified and how data is used to frame the housing crisis.
