Biography

Associate Professor Andrew Davidson

MB BS, MS, PhD, FRACS

Associate Professor Andrew Davidson completed his medical degree at University of Queensland in 1994. He commenced neurosurgical training in 2003, including a Master of Surgery program in Neurosurgery (awarded in 2006). A/Prof Davidson obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2008 and undertook a combined clinical and research fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at Macquarie University from 2008-2010. He was awarded his PhD from Macquarie University in 2014, for work on the molecular biology of brain arteriovenous malformations. 

As well as his interests in cerebrovascular surgery, A/Prof Davidson has been the Macquarie University Tumour Program Lead since its inception in 2012 and is Chair of the Neuro-oncology and Pituitary Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT). He is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University.  His academic interests include the functional assessment of brain tumour patients, and the development and delivery of a program of Evidence-Based Practice across the spectrum of medical training. A/Prof Davidson has a strong interest in medical education and is an executive committee member of the RACS Academy of Surgical Educators. He is also an active member of the Royal Australian Navy Reserve, and holds the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander, RANR.

A/Prof Davidson has published over 25 articles and book chapters, and his work has been widely cited in the scientific literature. He has presented at local, national, and international meetings, including the World Congress of Neurological Surgery and the European Skull Base Society. He teaches on anatomy and surgical approach workshops, particularly in the area of extended endoscopic skull base surgery. A/Prof Davidson is a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, the Pituitary Society, the North American Skull Base Society, the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Tumors, and the International Society of Pituitary Surgeons.
