Biography

Angela D'Rozario, BSc (Hons) PhD RPSGT is a NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Associate Professor, School of Psychological Sciences, Macquarie University. She is also a Research Leader, Sleep and Circadian Research Group and Director of the Centre for Chronic Disease of Ageing at the Woolcock Institute. She established and heads a world-class high-density electroencephalography (EEG) facility for sleep neuroscience research.

Her research program investigates how disrupted sleep physiology impacts cognition and performance and evaluates sleep interventions to improve brain health and cognitive function. Associate Professor D'Rozario was awarded an NHMRC Investigator Grant (2022-26) and is a Chief Investigator on major collaborative and multi-institutional grants including the NHMRC Synergy SIESTA Research Program (Synergise, Integrate and Enhance Sleep Research to Transform Brain Ageing).

She led the EEG Biomarker Discovery Program of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence to Optimise Sleep in Brain Ageing and Neurodegeneration (CogSleep CRE, 2019-23) and held a NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellowship (2016-20) to investigate links between abnormal brain activity during sleep and cognitive impairment, and to improve cognitive outcomes in adults at risk for dementia through targeted sleep interventions.

Associate Professor D'Rozario trained as a sleep technologist at St Thomas' Hospital (London, UK), and later commenced her PhD in Sleep Medicine at The University of Sydney. She was a recipient of the prestigious NHMRC Dora Lush Priority PhD Scholarship to examine novel brain biomarkers of cognitive dysfunction and sleepiness in obstructive sleep apnea and received the Helen Bearpark Memorial Scholarship from the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA), the peak national body for sleep health and sleep medicine. She is an active member of the ASA Research Committee and serves on the Board of the Australia and New Zealand Sleep Science Association.
