Biography

Dr Ava Laure Parsemain is a Lecturer in the Bachelor of Arts. She has worked in television programming and scheduling in France and in the United States and she has taught Media and Communication at California State University, Fullerton, the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales. Her research, which explores the educational dimension of television, has been published in book chapters and journals. Her book, The Pedagogy of Queer TV, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2019.

Research interests

Her recent work explores representations of gender, sexuality and queerness in contemporary entertainment television and how popular series educate audiences about questions of identities and related social issues. She is particularly interested in how entertainment can function as pedagogy.
