Biography
Dr. Bandita Mainali has been working as a Lecturer at Macquarie University's School of Engineering since 2022, where she imparts a wide array of subjects related to Civil/Water Resources Engineering. Previously, she held the position of Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at La Trobe University from 2014 to 2021 where she served as the course advisor of Master of Engineering Program, 1st year Engineering Program Coordinator and Capstone Project Coordinator for BE and ME programs. Over the years, she has supervised over 100 of Capstone project students and several HDR students. Currently she is supervising 3 PhD students (1 in a capacity of the principal supervisor and other 2 in a capacity of co-supervisor). With over a decade of combined industrial and academic experience, Dr. Mainali possesses expertise in civil/environmental engineering and hydrology/hydraulics. Her practical knowledge extends to hydraulic modelling using software like MUSIC and HECRAS, as well as water and wastewater engineering, including membrane technologies and advanced biological wastewater treatment methods. Dr. Mainali’ s primary research interest lies in innovative water and wastewater treatment and reuse technologies. Her research endeavors include investigating community perceptions of alternative water sources and promoting community education on environmental issues. Currently, her research focuses on optimizing the coagulation process for water treatment, addressing acid mine drainage, exploring new end uses of recycled water, implementing and monitoring Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and managing solid waste. Dr. Mainali holds a BE in Civil Engineering from Nepal, an ME in Water Resources Management through a DAAD Scholarship in Germany, and completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering with an APA Scholarship in Australia.
