Dr Can Yalcinkaya is a Senior Teacher at Macquarie University International College, where he coordinates the Diploma of Media and Communication program. He is a researcher, a comic artist and musician, whose scholarly and creative work feed into each other. He is the convenor of the Graphic Social Science Research Network, a community of researchers who aim to foster and promote scholarly research communicated in the multi-modal medium of graphic novels. He is a founding member of the Comics Studies Society and a full member of Centre for Media History. Along with Dr Safdar Ahmed, he founded the anti-racist Muslim metal band, Hazeen and performed in art venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Art. Hazeen was featured in an ABC Arts Documentary titled "You See Monsters" (dir. Tony Jackson, 2017). Can's scholarly and creative works were covered in national and international media. He was interviewed by ABC Radio National, SBS Radio,, and Bleeding Cool among others.
