Biography

Christina Giarmatzi is a Greek scientist who has called Australia home since 2014. She completed a 4-year Degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and a 2-year Master's in Optics from Institut d'Optique in Paris, France. She obtained her PhD from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, in 2018. She has performed two quantum experiments but is primarily a theorist, with work on quantum foundations, quantum causality and non-Markovian noise in open quantum systems.

She is now building a Research Group at Macquarie University, focussing on the characterisation of non-Markovian noise using process matrices. She often collaborates with experimentalists to characterise and mitigate non-Markovian noise, otherwise known as correlated noise or crosstalk.

Her teaching includes Quantum Computing, Quantum Information and Quantum Optics.

Outside the office, she surfs, skateboards, and plays guitar.
