Biography

Clement Loy is a neurologist with research interests in molecular genetics and clinical epidemiology. He undertook subspecialty training in cognitive neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London United Kingdom, and laboratory training at the Garvan Institute, Sydney Australia. He has had the privilege of caring for families with Huntington Disease (HD), and genetic forms of dementia, since 2000. Clement leads a quaternary referral service and research group for people with HD at Westmead Hospital Sydney, with a special interest in clinical trials. Clement holds 1 patent and has published 119 papers and book chapters- in journals including JAMA, the Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Cell, BMJ, Annals of Neurology, Lancet Neurology, and Brain. He has attracted >$25m in research funding, currently holding $6m in research grants & contracts as CIA. Prior to joining Macquarie Medical School as Head of School & Dean in 2023, Clement has taught extensively and led a number of teaching initiatives at the University of Sydney- in the Master of Clinical Epidemiology program, and, in Evidence Based Medicine & Research Methods for the MD Program. Clement has served as a Divisional Clinical Director/ Medical Advisor at Westmead Hospital. Clement serves the wider community as a member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, and contributes towards the governance of a number of not-for-profit organisations, including the international Huntington Study Group, and as an elected councillor for the Hospitals Contribution Fund (HCF).
