Biography

Dr Constantinos Yiallourides is Senior Lecturer (Tenured Assoc.Prof.) in International Law at the Macquarie School of Law, Deputy Director of the Centre of Environmental Law (CEL) and affiliate member of the University's Transforming Energy Markets (TEM) Research Centre. He is concurrently Research Leader in Law of the Sea at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) where he leads the Institute's research and training in the law of the sea, energy, and natural resources law.

He was previously Lecturer in International Law at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK), Postdoctoral Researcher in Energy Law & Public Policy at the University of Tokyo and Visiting Researcher at Waseda University (Japan), and the University of Hamburg (Germany).

Dr Yiallourides' research focuses on the law of territory, the law of the sea, environmental and natural resources law and the peaceful settlement of international disputes. His research has been funded by a variety of organisations, including the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Academy, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), as well as private and third-sector organisations.

Dr Yiallourides has provided expert advice and training to governments, international organizations, and other entities on a broad set of issues of international law. He is the recipient of the International Law Association 2021 Scholarship Award, an award to selected young scholars with proven excellence in international law.

His books include the monograph Maritime Disputes and International Law: Disputed Waters and Seabed Resources in Asia and Europe (Routledge, 2019) and International Fisheries Law: Persistent and Emerging Challenges (Routledge, 2024, co-edited with Prof Bjørn Kunoy and Judge Tomas Heidar).
