Dr Shirdhya (Diya) Joypaul is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI).  Diya is a medical researcher and an implementation scientist, who assists in the translation and application of empirical research into clinical practice.  Her current research focus is on the National Paediatric Applied Research Translation Initiative (N-PARTI), a project addressing three priority areas (i.e., antibiotic prescribing, asthma and type I diabetes) in paediatric populations, and aiming at optimising the delivery of primary care in this context.

Dr Joypaul has a background in medical sciences and pharmacy.  Her research experience ranges from quantitative, physiological investigations of antioxidant production by human red blood cells to multi-methods research on the implementation of multi-disciplinary interventions in primary care for people with chronic, non-cancer pain.  Dr Joypaul also holds experience working in pharmacy and has an extensive teaching experience, having convened and facilitated undergraduate and postgraduate courses in fields of chemistry, physics and pharmacology at Macquarie University, Sydney and Griffith University, Gold Coast.  The combination of her experience in pedagogy, community pharmacy and quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research, offers Dr Joypaul a unique opportunity to understand research from the lenses of laboratory researchers, social researchers and healthcare professionals.  This, in turn, guides Dr Joypaul’s collaborative work with stakeholders from varied disciplines and enables her to effectively translate empirical research into evidence-based practice.
