Biography
My main research interests lie in the development of (Koine) Greek during the Postclassical and Medieval periods. I am particularly interested in the metalexicography of Greek and Latin-Greek lexica, their development from glossaries into early printed dictionaries (and beyond).
I am also interested in the oppositional forces of lexical change and linguistic purity, in both pre-modern and modern (nationalistic-reactionary) contexts; the influence of Atticism on Greek right through to Modern Greek; and the way these processes have shaped the linguistic choices of writers of non-literary documents in the absence of a clearly defined Greek standard.
