Biography
Professor Eric Knight is an internationally recognised scholar in the field of organisational theory and strategic management. His research brings theories from analytic philosophy and sociology to better understand social and communication processes within organisations. He has a particular interest in strategic change as a dynamic process, and how organisations manage complex tensions linked with innovation (exploration and exploitation; paradox management). He has published in such top-tiered FT50 journals as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Studies, and Human Relations. He has recently been Chair of the Strategy Practice interest group of Management Society and is Program Chair of the Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) interest group of the Academy of Management. He completed his DPhil as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and was a Fulbright Senior Scholar and visiting professor to Stanford University and UC Davis.

- Board service on numerous company and government boards, including the founding boards of NSW Smart Sensors Network and the NSW Defence Innovation Network
- Chair of the Strategy Practice interest group of the Strategic Management Society and Program Chair (leadership track) of the Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) interest group at the Academy of Management
- Teaching excellence focused at the intersection of strategy and engineering, with free online access to award-winning Design-led Strategy course available here
- Previously Professor of Strategic Management and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research – Enterprise & Engagement) at the University of Sydney, responsible for the university’s R&D research strategy and implementation
- Honorary Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Sydney, and visiting professor at Oxford University and Stanford University
- Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW.
