I am a mental health researcher, clinical psychologist, and Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychological Sciences. My career is dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing for children and adolescents.
I completed my PhD and Master of Clinical Psychology at Macquarie University in 2016, followed by postdoctoral roles at Macquarie University (2016) and the University of Sydney (2017-2021). I held an academic position at Western Sydney University (2021-2024), prior to my appointment as a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University (2024).
I am on the Board of Directors for the Parenting and Family Research Alliance, which is a national alliance of researchers who aim to advance the science, policy, and practice of evidence-based parenting support. I am a chief investigator on Australia's first nationally-funded clinical trials network for youth mental health, entitled Growing Minds Australia. I am the Chair of the Early- to Mid-Career Researchers Network for Growing Minds Australia.
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist and board-approved supervisor for Clinical Psychology registrars.
My research aims to understand the developmental pathways to wellbeing and mental health problems in young people, as well as the important role that parents and children play in each other’s lives.
For example, my research has investigated infants’ socio-emotional attention, psycho-physiological responses, and evaluative conditioning, and how these processes relate to child wellbeing and mental health.
I also work on research that informs policies. I advocate for policies that increase access to evidence-based interventions for children’s mental health problems.
"I imagine a future where we have a greater understanding about what promotes good mental health in young people and their caregivers, and where there is greater public access to evidence-based interventions.
I am an avid science communicator. In the past 3 years, I have given over 20 print interviews, public talks, and podcast interviews. I have written for The Conversation with over 5,500 readers.
I have supervised 19 research students to completion with excellent outcomes. This includes 10 Honours and 9 Master of Clinical Psychology research students, where I was the primary supervisor for 14 of these students.
I am currently supervising Honours, Master of Clinical Psychology, and PhD students.
