Biography

Dr. Getiye Dejenu Kibret is a biostatistician and data scientist with progressive research profile.

Getiye is a postdoctoral research fellow and Biostatistician on multiple research projects under the NHMRC Partnership Project at Australian Institute of Health Innovation.

Getiye earned his PhD in Public Health from the University of Technology Sydney, where his research focused on health services accessibility, employing advanced statistical modelling techniques including Bayesian statistics, geospatial analysis, and multilevel modelling. He also holds a master’s in public health (MPH) from Debre Markos University and a Master’s in Biostatistics from the University of Gondar, both in Ethiopia, complemented by a bachelor’s in nursing from Debre Birhan University. Getiye’s academic journey spans a decade as a lecturer at Debre Markos University, leading to a prestigious IRTP scholarship-awarded at the University of Technology Sydney in 2019. He has worked as a research assistant between 2021 to 2022 at Sydney Children's Hospital Network and as a database Biostatistician between 2022 and 2023 at the University of Sydney.

Getiye is actively involved in multiple research projects and collaborations, having authored over 70 research articles published in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals, including esteemed medical outlets such as BMJ, JAMA, and Lancet Public Health. Additionally, he has presented his research findings at more than 20 national and international conferences.
