Biography

Gina Roncoli is an Australian screenwriter, script editor, story producer and media educator whose practice spans journalism, documentary and narrative development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and studied screenwriting at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). 

After graduating from the AFTRS she co-wrote and produced the critically acclaimed documentary Canto A La Vida (1989), which won numerous international awards, including the  Australian Film Institute Award for Best Documentary (1990) and the Special Jury Prize at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

As a screenwriter, script editor and story producer she has worked for major producers and broadcasters across multiple genres including drama, animation, comedy, and children's series. Her work has garnered multiple nominations for awards, and in 2003 she won the Australian Writers' Guild (AWGIE) Award for Best Children’s Script.

In institutional roles, Gina served as Project Officer at the NSW Film and Television Office and Industry Consultant for the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). She has also been instrumental in lobbying for policies that support industry practices  and for many years she Chaired  the NSW Committee of the Australian Writers Guild (AWG).

In addition to her creative practice Gina teaches screenwriting and media practice at universities and film schools, drawing on her industry experience to bridge the gap between creative practice and academia. For the last two years she has been teaching  at Macquarie University and is completing a Master of Arts, Research.
