Personal profile


From 1979-1987 taught Macedonian and general linguistics and semiotics at the University of Skopje. From 1987-2001 was Head of the Macedonian Section at the School of Modern Languages at Macquarie University where he taught Macedonian and Slavic linguistics. From 2001 to the present lectures in research methodology of translation and interpreting, literary translation and bilingualism and supervises research projects in translation. Lectured in lexicography, language planning and Spanish translation.


Main research areas are Macedonian, Balkan and Slavic linguistics, contact linguistics, comparative and historical linguistics, especially in the establishment of the linguistic affinity of the language isolate Burushaski with Indo-European, literary translation, language planning and standardisation and bilingualism.
