Biography

Ilija Vickovich is the Director of Student and Academic Services at Macquarie Law School. He is also Unit Convenor and Lecturer for the following core units:

- Evidence (LAWS399) (LLB program)
- Contracts (LAWS104) (LLB program)
- Evidence (LAWS814) (JD program).

Ilija is at the same time the Unit Convenor for the LAWS533 Law Journals elective unit in the LLB program and has been Editor of the Macquarie Law Journal since 2012. He was Unit Convenor of the core unit Law 550 Litigation from 2009 - 2015.  He has co-authored books on Contract Law, Equity, and Civil Procedure, and published scholarly articles in the fields of Contract Law, Legal History, Law and Religion, and Legal Education and Publishing.

Ilija worked for over 20 years as a legal practitioner, with extensive experience in litigation and commercial matters, before venturing into legal publishing and writing for business. He was at the same time a sessional Lecturer in the Law units of the Business School programs run by Curtin University, La Trobe University and Central Queensland University. Before joining Macquarie Law School, Ilija was Lead Lecturer in Business Law at the Sydney campus of Curtin University.

Ilija brings to his teaching and research a practical orientation rooted in legal and commercial reality, but with consistent reference to historical and theoretical context. He has participated in the teaching of Foundations of Law, Family Law, and Law and Religion at Macquarie Law School. He is a regular contributor to the Macquarie University Law Society competitions and mooting calendar, as well as to intervarsity moots. He has contributed moot problems for the Sir John Peden Contract Law Moot competition held annually between Macquarie University and the University of Sydney. Ilija has supervised undergraduate research theses in the areas of Civil Justice, Contract Law and Theory, Commercial Law, Consumer and Competition Law, Corporations Law and Labour Law. His doctoral research area is the judicial resolution of Australian church disputes.
