Biography

Dr Jane Simon researches and teaches in film studies and photography. She has expertise in home cultures, domestic space and contemporary photography. Her research and teaching engage with screen media and is feminist in orientation.  Her book The Domestic Interior and the Self in Contemporary Photography  (Routledge, 2024) focuses on the role of photography in refiguring understandings of autobiography and domestic space. Jane also specialises in photographic media and artists' books. Her artists' books are in international public collections including Manchester Metropolitan University's  Special Collections Library and University of West England's Centre for Fine Print Research. Jane completed her PhD in the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney. In 2010 Jane was a Visiting Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow in the European Centre for Photographic Research at the University of Wales, UK. From 2013-2016 Jane was Co-Editor of the journal Somatechnics, published by Edinburgh University Press.
