Biography
Javier Álvarez-Mon holds degrees in ancient Near Eastern art and archaeology from the École du Louvre (Paris) and the University of California at Berkeley respectively. A 2003 Fulbright-Hays Fellow and 2014-18 Future Fellow (Australian Research Council), he is presently Professor in Near Eastern Archaeology and Art at Macquarie University (Australia). For more than two decades Javier has pursued specialized studies in the art and archaeology of the civilizations of the ancient Near East (also referred to as Middle East, West Asia). Within this field, he has become the leading specialist in the art of Elam (c. 4200-525 BCE) and one of a handful of specialists in the archaeology of Elam and early Persia (c. 550-475 BCE). Javier is author and co-editor of more than fifty articles and several books with his most recent work, The Art of Elam ca. 4200-525 BC (Routledge 2020), attracting a long list of international accolades.
