Biography
I am a Professor of Accounting and Finance at Macquarie University, Sydney. I worked for over 15 years as an independent business consultant across various industries before joining Sydney University after completing my PhD in 2008. My PhD entitled Intellectual Capital in Action: Australian Studies won the prestigious Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award for 2008 for the Knowledge Management category. I undertake research into modern slavery, sustainability accounting and reporting, intellectual capital, knowledge management, qualitative research methods and academic writing. My research activities closely relate to managing, accounting, and scholarly practice. I began working at Macquarie University in December 2013.
In addition to my PhD, I have the following qualifications:
- Certificate of Specialization in Strategy, Harvard Business School Online (2025)
- Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education), Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney (2011)
- Master of Arts in Management Research Methods, Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) (2006)
- Master of Business Administration, Australian Graduate School of Management (2004)
Since starting my thesis in 2006, I have achieved an outstanding record as the author or co-author of over 120 peer-reviewed academic journal articles, publishing in prestigious journals such as Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal, The British Accounting Review, Journal of Intellectual Capital, Public Management Review, Financial Accountability and Management and The Journal of Business Ethics. I have over 140 co-authors from Australia, Italy, Sweden, the USA, Canada, Russia and China.
My Scopus and Google Scholar profiles evidence that my research is highly cited and, as a result, I have received two notable recognitions. First, an Elsevier and Stanford University study has recognised me as one of the world's top 2% of scientists from 2019 to 2024 and for my lifetime. Second, the Australian newspaper's Research Magazine has recognised me six times as Australia's Top Researcher in Accounting & Taxation for 2020, and from 2022 to 2026.
