Personal profile

Research interests

My research is focussed on the discovery and biosynthesis of natural products or specialised metabolites from various sources, predominantly bacteria and fungi. Although their roles in nature are not always clear, many of these metabolites possess properties which make them suitable candidates for downstream development by the biotech, pharmaceutical, agricultural, water management and food industries. The broad aims of such research are to generate large numbers of natural products with diverse structures and activities for screening, better understand their biosynthesis at the genetics level, and generate greater molecular diversity using genetic techniques.
