Biography

Kathryn Millard is a writer (scripts, essays, nonfiction), interdisciplinary scholar and filmmaker with a passion for big ideas. Her films are internationally recognised and much awarded. 

Kathryn's  body of work as a filmmaker spans documentary, drama and hybrids. They include The Bystander Story (2021), Experiment 20 (2018), Shock Room (2015),  The Boot Cake (2008), Light Years (1991), Saigon Doctor (1988), Point of Departure (1987) and the feature dramas 'Travelling Light (2003) and Parklands (1996). Psychology and mental health,  colour,  Charlie Chaplin, silent film,  and the afterlife of images are recurring themes in her body of work across film, print and audio.

In one strand of her work as a filmmaker, Kathryn collaborates with social psychologists to re-stage and re-think landmark experiments.

Kathryn has written two books of criticism:  'Screenwriting in a Digital Era' (2014) and  Double Exposure: How Social Psychology Fell in Love with the Movies to be published by Rutgers University Press in March, 2022.
