Personal profile

Research interests

My research focuses on organisational communication, particularly on how organisations build a sense of inclusion with culturally and linguistically diverse stakeholders. Current projects are focused on communication between schools and parents/carers as well as multicultural and multilingual approaches used by state government education and health departments as well as by local governments in NSW, Australia. It also examines representations of culturally and linguistic groups in the media.

This research draws on 10 years' experience of examining media and ethnic and national identity construction in Chinese music-entertainment television. It also draws on a long-term interest in intercultural/interlingual approaches to learning and teaching, including the teaching of English as a second/foreign language, media/communications and music.

I am a member of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences' Multilingualism Research Centre, the Public Relations Institute of Australia and the Social Media Marketing Institute.

I welcome expressions of interest from prospective HDR candidates interested in areas relating to cultural and linguistic diversity, migration, identity and belonging, community engagement, strategic communication, public relations and social media.
