Research interests

My research focuses on multicultural organisational communication as well as representations of cultural and linguistic diversity in the media. Current projects are focused on multicultural approaches used by state health departments (around COVID-19), school-family communication and Harmony Day, as well as representations of COVID-19, alternative/complementary health (e.g. naturopathy, Ayurveda, yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, bioactives), and gender and diversity in tennis in the media.

This research draws on 10 years' experience of examining media and ethnic and national identity construction in Chinese music-entertainment television. It also draws on a long-term interest in intercultural/interlingual approaches to teaching English as a second/foreign language, media/communications and music.

I am a member of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences' Multilingualism Research Centre.

I welcome expressions of interest from prospective HDR candidates interested in areas relating to cultural and linguistic diversity, identity and belonging, community engagement, health communications, sports communications, strategic communication, public relations and social media, and media representations.
